TIM Augsburg - Shape-Tape exhibition design for the textile museum

Challenge

An interdisciplinary exhibition concept for the Staatliches Textil- und Industriemuseum (TIM) in Augsburg, merging architecture, design, and computer science through spatial storytelling and custom typography.

Designing an engaging exhibition layout for a large interdisciplinary group of participants - architects, designers, and computer scientists - within a large industrial heritage space, ensuring each discipline has distinct visibility while maintaining a unified experience.

Approach

Spatial analysis of the museum hall, development of a color-coded zoning system using geometric shapes, custom 'Tapography' font creation inspired by tape forms, and detailed floor planning including emergency routes, seating, and visibility zones.

Working within a tight budget, a bold spatial concept - “Fragmenting Space with Shapes & Colors” - was developed, assigning each discipline a distinct geometric form and color (red cube for architects, blue arrow for designers, gold cylinder for computer science). A custom tape-inspired typeface unified all campaign materials.
